By Public Transportation
There are two routes to reach Fraueninsel from Munich Hauptbahnhof (main train station):Tip: Enter the destination “Frauenchiemsee” on the Deutsche Bahn website to get the best connection.
Option 1: Via Prien am Chiemsee
- ~1-hour train ride from Munich Hauptbahnhof to Prien am Chiemsee (regional trains run hourly)
- ~8-minute bus ride / 20-minute walk / Chiemsee bahn heritage train from Prien am Chiemsee station to Prien Hafen (harbor)
- ~30-minute ferry from Prien Hafen to Fraueninsel (runs every 30 minutes: see schedule)
Option 2: Via Gstadt
- ~1-hour train ride from Munich Hauptbahnhof to Prien am Chiemsee (regional trains run hourly)
- ~20-minute bus ride from Prien am Chiemsee to Gstadt
- ~10-minute ferry from Gstadt Hafen to Fraueninsel (runs every 30 minutes: see schedule)
By Car until Prien am Chiemsee / Gstadt
Take the A8 motorway from Munich toward Salzburg. Exit at Bernau am Chiemsee and follow signs toward Prien am Chiemsee / Gstadt.Fraueninsel is car free. Take ferry from either Prien Hafen or Gstadt Hafen to Fraueninsel (see above).
There are paid parking areas near the lake in Prien am Chiemsee and in Gstadt.
